Kitbuilder.com has been established to service the creative spirit in all of us. (Okay just the plastic modeler to start - er...um...fine scale aviation modeler; but read-on and learn more about who we are and how the site works). As the founder and webmaster of Kitbuilder.com I share your appreciation, enthusiasm and love of aviation from general aviation to model aircraft of all kinds. It is for that reason that Kitbuilder.com has been launched after years of sitting "fallow". Originally registered in 1997, Kitbuilder.com was intended to be an online hobby shop - bought on the heels of an aborted purchase of a local hobby shop. Later it was considered as a resource for the homebuilt aviation community but that also failed to see the light of day...that is until today.
I am an avid aviation buff and a private pilot; the son of a commercial pilot and hold a deep appreciation of the science of aerospace and aviation in all its forms. That's a wide swath of subjects - thus it was decided to make the initial launch of Kitbuilder.com as a collection of forums dedicated to fine scale plastic aviation modeling to compliment Brett Green's Hyperscale.com. With time it is desired to expand the site into other areas of aviation wherever the kitbuilder may find a need or desire for a venue for collaboration and sharing of ideas and techniques. For the past several years I have been an avid follower and supporter of Brett Green's Hyperscale.com - the single finest (all around) source for the plastic model builder bar-none. I have enjoyed participating in their Group Builds and posting answers to questions from fellow modelers. With a deep appreciation of the skills and time required to maintain such a website it was decided to launch Kitbuilder.com as a "compliment" to Hyperscale.com and focus initially on Builder Forums and Group Builds to enhance Brett Green's efforts - as it is his inspiration (to name a few) that gives rise to Kitbuilder.com as it is today! Kitbuilder.com is a non-commercial (privately held) website and holds no affliations within the modeling industry. This website is non-partial and exists for the purpose of providing a platform by which modeling enthusiasts can collaborate and post progress reports of projects under construction or completed. We don't sell anything and expressely desire to support the fine efforts of others in the industry by complimenting their work rather than detracting from it. Our mission is to provide and maintain forums and other collaboration tools for the advancement of the art of kit built projects. Opinions expressed by patrons of Kitbuilder.com or linked banner ads and their hosts are not necessarily those of Kitbuilder.com.
There are a few rules to participate in Kitbuilder.com Forums. First of all - users are bound by the terms of Network54.com and registration via Network54 is required to post on Kitbuilder.com Forums. Secondly, Kitbuilder.com is a non-demoninational Christian website but is open to any and all faiths or those of no faith. We don't preach here but do require that all participants show mutual respect for one-another. Crude language will be automatically edited and abusers will be restricted from the website forums with or without warning. Offensive posts will be deleted at the sole discresion of the moderator(s) without notice. The forums are to be loosely interpreted for content as we are tolerant of pushing the bounds of their intended topics. We're not "purists"...just guys and gals who like to tinker with and build airplanes! When in doubt just drop us a line!! Consider it like a gentlemen's agreement...be excellent to one-another and have fun!!!
Kitbuilder.com is a "frames" website. It requires a modern browser and is compatible with Firefox and Internet Explorer. Compatibility with other browsers is a work-in-progress and will be officially posted soon in this space. Central navigation for the domain is found in the bottom-left of the bottom "frame" of the screen. For the most part external links will display within the top "frame" but on occasion the website may be lost when visiting other sites (depending on their linking and navigation). For that reason we encourage you to bookmark Kitbuilder.com and watch for links to bookmark individual pages soon! As much space as possible has been reserved for content and imagery. Thus Kitbuilder.com itself is minimalist in many ways. Afterall...it's not about the website per-se...it's about what you're building! That's why we exist and what we strive to serve. This is the reason a "frames" interface was selected for this domain with minimal space reserved for navigation. Each of Forum on Kitbuilder.com features a description of the forum and the purpose and usage for the forum. We're loose on the rules here so let common sense reign supreme! Again, it's about having fun. Feel free to post general topics in Unicom as that space is for general use and anything goes (save abusive, objectionable or pornographic material or subject matter).
Official matters will be either addressed here on the homepage or on in the header of the forum that is affected. Postings in the forums may also announce official rules or deadlines and should be looked for from time-to-time. Please email webmaster@kitbuilder.com if you have any questions or concerns. When in doubt just drop us a line!
For the record our sincere thanks is offered to all those who endeavor to advance the science of the hobby which drives our creative juices. Specifically I thank Brett Green for his tireless work in advancing the hobby of fine scale plastic modeling. Finally, Kitbuilder.com is dedicated in whole to the memory of one of the finest gentlemen that I have ever known...my best friend, former Art Director of Accurate Miniatures, twin brother of different mothers, long-time partner in the 34th PRS Online and brother in Christ - Thomas Edward Myers (1961-2008). Without you this site wouldn't exist as it does today! Thanks buddy!! So that's our schpeel! The "Official" line from the Leopard Skin Room. So please consider joining us in pushing the envelope of your personal experience. Share in the joy and connect with your fellow kitbuilders! Join in the conversation and have some fun. To quote Thom..."Now Go Build Something!" Semper Fi!
